“I see the campaign as a breakthrough in the fight against gender stereotyping. We are indeed grateful to you for making it a success. It was an eye-opener for our learners, not only the girls who participated on the day but the school as a whole.” – H.P Mnikathi, Principal. Asibemunya High School, Merrivale-2005

Five years ago Cell C introduced a special day in the South African calendar, the Take a Girl Child to Work Day® which aims to expose high school learners to world of work by spending a day at a place of work. The initiative provides girl learners in Grade 10 to 12 with the opportunity to gain first hand knowledge about available career encouraging options. The initiative has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception through growing support from companies, government, schools and the general public. It is this support that has seen the campaign reach an estimated 350 000 learners in the last five years, making it one of the biggest private-public sector collaborative efforts. The initiative has attracted high-level endorsement from President Thabo Mbeki, Deputy President Mlambo Ngcuka and former President Nelson Mandela, among many other individuals in leadership positions both in the public and private sector who use their standing to promote awareness of gender issues, the rights of girl children and the benefits to the economy and greater civil society of when women to acquire work skills

Cell C is proud to bring take a girl child to work day® to South Africa again for the sixth consecutive year. It will be hosted on Thursday, 29th 2008.
